Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Rotation: 7 days on, 7 days off
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Average Daily Census: 100 patients
- Patient Visit Load: Approximately 6 visits per day
- Patient-to-Nurse Ratio: 1:10
- Work Setting: Home Health/Hospice
- Electronic Systems: HCHB, iPrescribe
- Scrub Color: Any
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Weekend Schedule: Every third weekend
- Floating: Required within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Call Requirements: Approximately 2 days per month for weekend backup and coverage during PTO or sick calls
- Holiday Work: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
- Orientation: Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
- Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
- Clinical Screening: Candidates will undergo clinical review to determine fit before final manager approval
- Locals Accepted: Yes, at the same rate
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of hospice nursing experience, with hospice experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health and Background Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start; includes county, national, sex offender, criminal, and education verification
- Photo ID: Valid driver’s license or state ID required
- Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations and Testing:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (or proof of positive TB with negative chest X-ray within 6 months)
- TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap – highly recommended but not required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
- Drug Screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable
Documentation and Compliance
- References: Two clinical references required
- Skills Checklist: Must be current within 12 months
- Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid background required
- Insurance: Valid proof of current automobile liability insurance required
- Code of Conduct and Dress Policy: Must review and acknowledge prior to start
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be able to float within the facility as needed within scope of practice
- Call coverage includes backup on weekends and filling in for nurses on PTO or sick leave
- Major holidays require work commitment depending on how many fall within the assignment period
- Clinical screening and final approval are required before assignment confirmation
This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs comfortable with home health settings, independent work, and flexible scheduling including night shifts, weekends, and holiday coverage.
