Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Lubbock, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Unit: Medical Surgical (Float between units required)
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- On-call: Not required
- Block schedules: Not required
- Special Requirements: Epic Hardstop system
- 48-hour shifts approved

Dress Code
- Licensed nursing personnel (RN, LVN): solid navy blue uniforms or scrubs (print tops not allowed except in specific pediatric and women’s services units)
- Unlicensed personnel: solid hunter green uniforms or scrubs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Experience & References
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Medical Surgical nursing
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
Background & Verification Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
- Education verification required for nursing degree
- NURSYS license verification required
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable with attestation)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel candidates (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Drug screen attestation required if instant drug screen used
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background) required
- Float policy acknowledgement: candidate may be required to float to other units or facilities within reasonable distance
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, unit-specific skills)
- Completion of required WorkRamp modules (regulatory, specialty, and facility-specific) prior to start and annually thereafter
- Color blindness testing if required by unit
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors) with explanations for gaps or overlaps
- Work history verification may be required if reference requirements are not met
Work Environment & Notes
- Free parking available in unrestricted employee/visitor lots
- No on-call duties
- Floating between units expected
- Must be able to work weekends as scheduled
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of Medical Surgical experience, comfortable with floating between units, and able to work a day shift schedule including weekends. Compliance with extensive credentialing, background, and health requirements is mandatory.
