Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work on a mixed acuity unit caring for medical patients with some Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level patients.
  • Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
  • Patient ratios: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
  • Care includes unstable stroke patients and BiPAP management.
  • Drip experience required with Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin, Lasix.
  • Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (day shift example: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM).
  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract.
  • Locals are not accepted for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana (in-hand, no pending licenses accepted).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Neurology experience required.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association)
    • BLS (American Heart Association)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Experience with insulin drips.
  • Experience with post heart catheterization and post pacemaker procedures.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
  • Background checks including 7-year work/life history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
  • Drug screen: Negative 10-panel within 12 months (includes amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months with approved respirators (N95 models or Honeywell N95).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended.
  • Tuberculosis screening: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year; chest x-ray if positive history.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted.
  • Competency exams: Medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam required.
  • Color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years.
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually.

  • Facility type: Short-Term Acute Care with 194 staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Cerner.
  • Free parking available.
  • Dress code: Red top, black bottoms scrub.
  • Indiana RN travelers are restricted from working at this facility after 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including Endoscopy, IR, PACU, Cath Lab, SDS).
