Description
Registered Nurse (Med/Tele - K3)
Location: Lufkin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit & Patient Population
- 18-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Patient diagnoses commonly include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia (PNA), chronic kidney disease (CKD), and medical/surgical telemetry patients
- Patients may require CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen support
- Telemetry monitor technicians monitor patients, but RNs must be able to read cardiac strips
Staffing & Ratios
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 6:1
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) present with a ratio of 12:1
- Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators are available on the unit
Scheduling & Requirements
- 12-hour night shifts; scheduling managed by leadership with no guarantee of block scheduling
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday shifts required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to all Med/Surg units
Orientation & Dress Code
- Department-specific orientation provided in the Kurth Tower (all Med/Surg Telemetry)
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Strong communication and time management skills
Additional Notes
- RNs are not required to titrate drips on this unit
- Ability to read telemetry strips is essential
