Description
Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Pocatello, Idaho
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care for medical-surgical patients with diverse diagnoses including sepsis, CIWA, confusion, AMS, COPD, post-op care, AKI, trauma, respiratory failure, bowel obstruction, pyelonephritis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, GI conditions, isolation precautions, and suicidal ideation with medical indications.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6.
- Float to other units allowed if competencies are met.
- Unit size: 48 beds.
- Must live at least 100 miles from the facility to qualify.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records.

- Apply the Nursing Process across all age groups: infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Thorough documentation following regulatory and hospital standards.
- Maintain clinical competencies and support professional development.
- Adapt to varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Work effectively in a busy, stressful environment with evolving patient safety requirements.
Skills and Abilities
- Good judgment, patience, and professionalism.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic medical records.
- Strong organizational and workload management skills.
- Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced math skills and critical thinking for problem analysis and decision making.
- Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate creativity in patient care.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years.
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year.
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Varicella (or documented history)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
Background and Documentation
- 7-year background check updated annually, including SS trace, county searches, nationwide checks, sex offender registry, and education verification.
- Employment application and resume required.
- 7-year work history verification required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually.
- Photo for badge required.
- Driver’s license or state ID required.
- E-Verify and other federal background checks required upon hire.
Additional Notes
- Must be able to float to other units if competencies are met.
- Must be willing to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Must comply with a 100-mile radius rule (must live at least 100 miles from the facility).
