Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro) - Travel Assignment

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (with option to extend up to 26 weeks)
Shift: Nights (1900-0700)
Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 (option for 48 hours upon request)

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: Neurology Unit (Med Surg Neuro)
• Number of Beds: 17
• Patient Types: Medical and Surgical Neurology patients including Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar conditions
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 6:1 (estimates, not guaranteed)
• Equipment: Standard nursing equipment including IV pumps
• EMR System: EPIC

Job Summary

• Deliver nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
• Monitor and report changes in patient conditions
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central lines), and other personalized interventions
• Prepare patients for exams and explain procedures/treatments/discharge instructions
• Maintain documentation and confidentiality according to professional and legal standards
• Promote patient safety and act as patient advocate
• Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
• Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in charge nurse roles or willingness to learn and take on charge duties

Work Environment & Expectations

• Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
• Float to Med Surg and Progressive units as needed
• Weekend work expected approximately every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• Work at least one major holiday during summer or winter holiday periods
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel period November 1 - April 1 (declinations not accepted)
• Dress code: Black scrubs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with neurology and stroke patients highly preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team
• Attentive and caring toward patient outcomes

Additional Notes

• Candidates may request up to 5 days off per 13-week assignment with automatic approval; additional time off requires leadership approval and may need to be made up
• The unit does not handle trauma patients
• Emphasis on adherence to infection control, medication administration protocols, and Joint Commission standards including National Patient Safety Goals
