Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (typically 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks)
Job Summary
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units.
- Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas of greatest need.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Care for a diverse patient population with diagnoses including chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
- Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of medical-surgical experience at a 600+ bed hospital or like-sized facility.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Skills and Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and medication dispensing systems (Pyxis).
- Manage IV therapy, including heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, feeding tubes/pumps, chest tubes, and telemetry monitoring.
- Use equipment such as Hospira IV pumps, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, SCDs for VTE prevention, and heat/cooling pads.
Orientation and Training
- Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation plus approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
- Call-off policy: Client may cancel up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
Note: Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment.
