Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) at a main hospital facility.
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:30), totaling 36 hours/week.
- Call requirement: 32 total hours per month.
- Floating: May float to Main OR if no CVOR cases during the shift.
- Patient population includes adult open heart surgeries such as CABG and valve procedures (aortic, mitral, pulmonic).
- Scrub role required for open CVOR cases; circulating and TAVR experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Impella and HeartMate devices, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR procedures is necessary.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Scrubs provided by the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Schedule and Accommodation
- Any schedule requests, including block or time off, must be submitted with application and approved before offer.
- Locals are accepted for this position.
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license must be provided within 48 hours of signing.
- Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-jurisdictional searches.
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) required within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start; additional clearance required for history of positive TB.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start; on-site fit testing mandatory.
- Color vision test required if job tasks involve color discrimination.
- Completion of annual education and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing contract.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for adult critical care and related units.
- IV Therapy/Infusion competency exam required for all RNs except those in OR specialties.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation and cancellation policies in place.
Additional Notes
- Floating policy must be acknowledged and completed for every new assignment or site transfer.
- Knowledge and experience with advanced cardiac devices and procedures are essential for success in this role.
- EPIC electronic health record system experience is expected.
- Scrubs are provided by the employer.
