Description
Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical Stepdown
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 3 shifts of 12 hours each; includes weekend and holiday commitments
Unit Description
- 29-bed medical stepdown unit specializing in care for patients with acute MI, cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, CHF, and other low-risk cardiac/chest pain diagnoses.
- Provides general medical services including cardiology, renal, endocrinology, general medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and oncology patients.
- Staff receive special training in non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (Bi-PAP, C-PAP, A-PAP).
- Responsibilities include infusion therapy, transfusions, injections, and central line care.
- Patient care assistants support with ADLs, point-of-care glucose testing, and 12 Lead EKGs.
- The unit is a dedicated stroke unit; all RNs are NIH Stroke Scale certified.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio.
- ACLS certification required.
- Minimum 1 year of Stepdown/Telemetry nursing experience.
- Ability to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education.
- Effective communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to continuing professional growth and competence.
- Ability to adapt to change and work in a culturally diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred.
- Leadership experience such as Charge RN or Preceptor preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on nursing principles and the unit’s model of care.
- Provide care to patients requiring cardiac monitoring and manage complex medical conditions.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to promote partnership in care.
- Adhere to the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
