Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Santa Monica, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Work in a unit with:
- 4 antepartum rooms
- 9 labor/high risk rooms
- 3 triage rooms
- No on-call required
- May float to postpartum if needed (including postpartum couplet care: newborn and maternal)
- Responsibilities include:
- Fetal heart monitoring
- High-risk pregnancy monitoring
- Assisting with C-sections and vaginal deliveries
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Charting system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications required (must be current and from approved organizations):
- EFM or AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- ACLS (American Heart Association certification only)
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Fit mask test required (annual renewal), to be completed onsite if no valid record within 1 year
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or acceptable declinations:
- TDAP (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual renewal required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (updated drug screen not required if currently working at another facility with less than 30-day gap)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use (virtual questionnaire reviewed by licensed healthcare professional)
Background and Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
- SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, motor vehicle record (if applicable)
- Education verification required for nursing degree (international education requires diploma/transcript)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search)
- References and work history verification as required
- Skills checklist for applicable units, updated annually
Additional Information
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Parking available with fees (not included here)
- Scrub color: Navy blue for RNs; L&D/OR/Cath Lab scrubs provided
- Local radius for travel: 50 miles
- Floating policy acknowledgment required (may float to other units within reasonable distance)
- Annual mandatory training modules required via LMS (Workramp), including regulatory and specialty-specific training
- Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)
This position offers an acute care hospital experience in a beachside location with a supportive team environment focused on high-risk obstetrics and labor & delivery care.
