Cath Lab RN - Cardiology (Long-Term Assignment)

Location: Olympia Fields, Illinois
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Days, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, including call rotation (on-call every 2nd or 3rd weekend, 1-3 times per week)


Job Summary

  • Provide exceptional nursing care to adult and geriatric patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures in the Cath Lab.
  • Support patients holistically, addressing physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs in a surgical/procedural setting.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, providing continuous updates on patient status before, during, and after procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain procedure rooms, ensuring all equipment is functional and ready.
  • Manage supplies and inventory to support efficient Cath Lab workflow.
  • Monitor physiologic and hemodynamic data during diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures.
  • Continuously assess and document patient condition with thorough and accurate records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of recent hands-on clinical experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

  • Drug screening (minimum 10-panel including THC) within 60 days of start.
  • Annual respirator fit test completed prior to start.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • COVID-19 vaccine series plus booster or documented declination
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (3 immunizations, immune titer, or declination)
    • Influenza vaccine or declination (seasonal requirement)
    • Varicella (vaccination or immunity titer)
    • Tdap (declination may not be accepted in some regions)
  • Tuberculosis testing within one year of start date.
  • Annual physical/health statement confirming clearance to work.
  • National criminal background check within one year of start.
  • Social Security card or passport for identity verification.
  • Professional credential verifications including nursing license verification (e.g., Nursys).
  • Completion of required competency exams and skills checklists with minimum passing scores (80% or higher).
  • Completion of workplace violence prevention training.
  • Submission of two professional references, including at least one from a manager or direct supervisor.
  • Signed job description and agency attestation forms as part of onboarding.

Additional Notes

  • This position requires working in a fast-paced cardiovascular procedural environment with direct patient care responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential for collaboration with physicians and Cath Lab staff.
  • Candidates must be prepared for weekend call duties and occasional after-hours responsibilities.
  • All onboarding documentation and certifications must be current and completed prior to start date.
