Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
  • Shifts are 3 twelve-hour shifts (3x12's) only, rotating between day (7:00 am – 7:30 pm) and night (7:00 pm – 7:30 am). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not mandatory.

Orientation and Competency Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
  • Must complete SafeMedicate prep materials before orientation exam.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunization and health document requirements including:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted) or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Background and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Primary source verification of RN license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules and training prior to clearance to start.
  • Candidates with a break in employment greater than 6 months at this facility may need to repeat orientation and modules.
  • Candidates must have legal name consistency across all documents.
  • Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.

Work Hours

  • 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week total.
  • Rotating day and night shifts as needed.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with strong clinical skills, current certifications, and the ability to work flexible shifts in a high-acuity environment.
