Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Los Banos, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 40 hours
- Every other weekend required
- Must be able to take on-call shifts 12-14 days per month
- Local base rate differs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including:
- Social Security trace with all aliases
- County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
- Nationwide sex offender search
- Education verification (highest level achieved; BSN preferred)
- FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana due to CA law)
- Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps
- Employment verification for up to 7 years, with explanations for gaps over 30 days
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must state "cleared for work" or equivalent)
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
- TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD (annual renewal required)
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
- Color blindness exam (in-person, if applicable)
- Respiratory safety clearance, renewed annually
Competency and Skills
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units (verify applicability)
Facility-Specific Documents and Policies
- Must review and sign:
- Job description
- Standards of Business Conduct
- Vendor training (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
- Code of Conduct (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
- Overpayment refund policy (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
- General regulatory orientation for contracted workers
- Conditional offer of employment attestation (must be completed prior to start)
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine exemptions
- TB questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days, renewed annually
- Photo for badge (per diem only)
Additional Notes
- References:
- 2 professional references required for clinical and acute care candidates (within 3 years)
- 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
- Must be able to comply with every other weekend and on-call requirements
- No mention of prior travel experience required
This position is ideal for an experienced Operating Room RN licensed in California, comfortable with on-call responsibilities and meeting comprehensive health and compliance standards.
