Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Los Banos, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
• Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
• Weekly Hours: 40 hours
• Every other weekend required
• Must be able to take on-call shifts 12-14 days per month
• Local base rate differs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check including:

  • Social Security trace with all aliases
  • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
  • Nationwide sex offender search
  • Education verification (highest level achieved; BSN preferred)
  • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana due to CA law)
• Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps
• Employment verification for up to 7 years, with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (must state "cleared for work" or equivalent)
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
• TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD (annual renewal required)
• Immunizations or titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
• Color blindness exam (in-person, if applicable)
• Respiratory safety clearance, renewed annually

Competency and Skills

• Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units (verify applicability)

Facility-Specific Documents and Policies

• Must review and sign:

  • Job description
  • Standards of Business Conduct
  • Vendor training (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
  • Code of Conduct (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
  • Overpayment refund policy (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
  • General regulatory orientation for contracted workers
  • Conditional offer of employment attestation (must be completed prior to start)
• Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine exemptions
• TB questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days, renewed annually
• Photo for badge (per diem only)

• References:

  • 2 professional references required for clinical and acute care candidates (within 3 years)
  • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care
• Must be able to comply with every other weekend and on-call requirements
• No mention of prior travel experience required
