Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Tracy, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (two possible start times: 6:45 AM–5:15 PM or 8:30 AM–7:00 PM)
- On-call requirement: Overnight shifts on weekdays, 24-hour coverage on weekends and holidays
- Specialty focus: Operating Room nursing with circulating responsibilities
- Surgical experience required in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Spine, Urology, Robotics, OB/GYN (including C-sections), Plastic Surgery
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Facility type: Community hospital or Trauma Level 2 setting
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Surgical experience in Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Urology, and Plastic Surgery
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and motor vehicle report if applicable
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug test within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1–Apr 30) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and renewed annually
Additional Requirements
- Full 7 years of work history documented with no gaps, including city and state of employment
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for clinical acute care candidates
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start
- Candidates with religious exemptions for facial hair or vaccines must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- All certifications must be from recognized organizations (AHA or ARC for BLS, ACLS, PALS)
- Onsite training for Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be completed during orientation if not completed prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses seeking a travel contract in a community hospital setting with diverse surgical cases and a structured day shift schedule.
