Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric ICU

Position Overview

• Accountable for coordination of nursing care including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
• Supports professional nursing practice across settings and continuum of care.
• Functions within a professional nursing practice model emphasizing planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care.
• Provides leadership through precepting, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
• Delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills required.
• May participate in committees or projects.

Specialty Focus

• Care of critically ill pediatric patients across medical, surgical, trauma, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, and pulmonary specialties.
• Unit includes pediatric liver and kidney transplant and bone marrow transplant patients.
• Manages critical patients with congenital and complex multi-organ problems requiring ongoing interventions.
• Experience with Level 1 trauma and intubated patient care required.
• Solid organ transplant experience strongly preferred.

Contract Details

• 13-week assignment
• 36 hours per week
• 12-hour shifts with day/night rotation: 07:00–19:30 and 19:00–07:30
• Every 3rd weekend required
• Floating to other units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Minnesota
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 1 trauma patients
• Minimum 1 year recent travel RN experience
• Experience with intubated patient care

Preferred Qualifications

• Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
• Transport Certified Nurse (TCTCN) certification
