Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
• Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Start Date: ASAP
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of PACU experience required
• Ophthalmology experience is mandatory (hard stop, do not screen without)
• Experience with Phase I (Hardstop) and Phase II recovery required
• EPIC electronic health record experience required
• First-time travelers accepted only if they have 5 years PACU experience
• Post-shift on-call required from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (frequency varies)
• Weekend work not required
• Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed
• Block scheduling accommodations not available
• Local radius for travel is 50 miles

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Licensure

• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California
• Pending licenses are not accepted

Facility & Work Environment

• Acute Care Hospital setting with 320 staffed beds
• Outpatient surgery center environment
• Charting system: Meditech
• Free parking available

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Fit mask test required annually (on-site testing available if no recent record)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination forms accepted for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
• COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
• Drug screening: 9-panel within 12 months of start (updated drug screen not required if currently working at another facility with less than 30-day gap)
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use

Background & Verification Requirements

• Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education verification required for nursing degree
• NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
• Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for any gaps or overlaps
• Work history verification required if reference requirements are not met
• Various state-specific background checks and attestations may apply depending on placement

Additional Requirements

• Post-shift on-call availability required
• Must comply with float policy (may be required to float to other nearby facilities)
• Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS required
• Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required prior to start

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 3 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, with experience within the last year
• Strong ophthalmology background and ophthalmology experience (mandatory)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
• Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification

Notes

• Guaranteed hours: facility may call off once per two-week pay period
• Scheduling requests due to additional employment will not be considered
• Return-to-office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with a strong ophthalmology background seeking a travel contract in an outpatient surgery setting.
