Description
Medical ICU RN Travel Assignment
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Title
Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical ICU
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 1.5 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Unit and Patient Population
- Mixed acuity unit: primarily Progressive Care Unit (PCU) patients with 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio; less frequent ICU patients with 1:2 ratio
- Unit includes 24 Medical ICU beds and 12 Progressive Care beds
- Patient diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia
- Nurses will float among ICU, PCU, and Medsurg units, maintaining a maximum 1:3 ratio
Job Duties and Skills
- Care for ventilated patients
- Initiate and titrate IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics)
- Assist with intubations and line placements
- Monitor critically ill patients with complex medical conditions
- Use equipment such as Phillips heart monitors, Epic EMR, Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers
- Strong critical thinking, flexibility, teamwork, and interpersonal skills required
Schedule and Shift Details
- Three 12-hour evening shifts per week (36 hours total)
- Traditional weekday plus weekend rotation
- Will not work alone
Orientation and Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (one day unit onboarding)
- Onboarding includes policy review and Epic training/access through workforce development
Additional Information
- Facility accepts local travelers (within 50 miles) with a rate adjustment
- Call-off policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours before shift for the 13-week assignment
- Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs; jackets must be black, white, or Caribbean blue; undershirts black or white, short or long sleeves
Notes for Candidates
- Must be comfortable floating to multiple units (ICU, PCU, Medsurg)
- Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities preferred
- Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment in advance
