Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Beds: 44
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 2 CNC/Charge Nurses, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 HUC
    • Night Shift: 2 CNC/Charge Nurses, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 HUC
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1, stretched to 5:1
  • Equipment Used: IV pumps, Skylift, PCA pump, Chest tubes, Trachs, Patient lifts
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS

Work Environment & Culture

  • Shift Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Floating Areas: Stepdown units, Med-surg units
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend required
  • Personality Fit: Team player, patient-focused

  • The unit is part of a Level II trauma center with comprehensive stroke and neonatal intensive care services.
  • The hospital is recognized for nursing excellence and patient safety.
