Description

RN (Registered Nurse) – Cath Lab/ICU Nurse Manager

Location: Garden City, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Manage both Cath Lab and ICU departments.
  • Oversee Cath Lab with 1 Cath Lab room and 3 pre/post procedure bays.
  • Oversee ICU with 8 beds.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • 3 years of RN experience.
  • 1 year of management experience.
  • 1 year of clinical leadership experience.
  • Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) via CCI, NIHSS, TNCC, CRRT competency.
  • Fluoroscopy license required for technical staff.
  • Experience in critical care and telemetry.

Patient Population & Clinical Focus

  • Cath Lab: Cardiac, vascular, electrophysiology (EP), interventional radiology (IR), and non-invasive cardiology patients.
  • ICU: Cardiac and respiratory patients including sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), Non-STEMI, STEMI, COPD exacerbation, chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Support pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure care in Cath Lab (pre and recovery/hold areas).
  • Bedside procedure support and moderate sedation.
  • Enhance nursing competency and build unit culture.
  • RNs are required to titrate drips.

Common Medications & Drips

  • Cath Lab: All vasoactive drugs, Heparin, IIb/IIIa inhibitors, blood products.
  • ICU: Levophed, Vasopressin, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, Nitroglycerin, Amiodarone, Versed, Propofol, Fentanyl, Nimbex, Insulin.

Staffing & Ratios

  • Cath Lab: 3-4 staff per case (RN/Tech).
  • ICU: Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:2 up to 1:3 depending on acuity.
  • Charge nurse is required to take patient assignments but preferably not.
  • No nurse aides on the unit.
  • All staff read cardiac strips and monitor patients intraprocedurally and in pre/post areas. ICU nurses monitor their own patients and confirm strips every 4 hours.

Equipment

  • Cath Lab: Oxygen, End Tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators.
  • ICU: Ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen.

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Day shift, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
  • Elective cases Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • Self-scheduling allowed.
  • Call required 24/7 including weekends and holidays.
  • Floating required for all staff except charge nurse to assist other departments.

Orientation & Additional Notes

  • Orientation varies by role; updates in progress.
  • Candidates should be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote.
  • Cath Lab pre/post area requires 2 ACLS-certified RNs per shift.
  • Hospital-laundered scrub dress code.
