Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU Travel Position
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Unit: Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU)
- Number of Beds: 20
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Staffing (per shift):
- 10 RNs (increased as needed for 1:1 patient care)
- 1 Supervisor
- 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- 1 ICU waiting room Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- Floating Policy: Travelers float before core staff; may float to other ICUs (MICU, NSICU, CVICU, CICU) or Step Down units
- Scheduling: 6-week schedule requiring 6 weekend shifts
- Dress Code: Navy or white scrubs; navy bottoms with white tops also acceptable
- Documentation System: Cerner Power Chart
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU), with experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level I or Level II Trauma patients
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience
- Active Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Intubation and extubation
- Chest tube placement
- Central line and arterial line (A-line) placement
- Foley catheter placement
- Bronchoscopy and endoscopy assistance
- Proning patients
- TPA administration
- Hypertonic medication administration
- Tracheostomy placement
- External ventricular drain (EVD)/bolt placement
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and hemodialysis (HD)
- Irrigation and debridement
- Minor surgical procedures
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
- Active ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Active BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NIH Certification also required
