Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Acute Telemetry

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Oncology Acute Telemetry, Tower 6
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: Days (7am–7pm)
Hours per Week: 36 (12-hour shifts)
Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum


Job Overview

  • Care for primarily oncology patients (85%) with telemetry and medical-surgical patients (15%) on a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Light charge nurse responsibilities with patient assignments.
  • Work alongside 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per shift.
  • Float to other MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed.
  • Weekend requirement: at least 1 weekend per month.
  • Holiday shifts included in rotation.
  • Telemetry monitoring using Phillips system; RN responsible for EKG interpretation.
  • Ventilator support includes BiPAP and CPAP.
  • Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services available 24/7.
  • No hospitalist or intensivist in-house.
  • IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV access.
  • Floor-specific orientation: 2 days.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona.
  • Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in the specialty (Oncology with Telemetry).
  • Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required; chemotherapy certification is a plus.
  • Cerner EMR experience required.
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region).
  • Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation.
  • Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required (SIMs Lab pass/fail).
  • Must be able to maintain sterile field during procedures.
  • Must comply with facility grooming policies: no facial piercings, natural hair colors only, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
  • Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team.
  • Prior travel experience required for certain ICU/ED roles; not explicitly required here but travel experience is generally preferred.
  • Candidates must not hold concurrent contracts with other employers.
  • Must have been off permanent staff at this health system for at least 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment.
