Registered Nurse Supervisor – Fairview, Pennsylvania
Position Overview
- Role: RN Supervisor in a Long-Term Care (LTC) / Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) setting
- Facility Size: 300 beds divided into 6 units (including secure dementia and a currently closed COVID unit)
- Shift: Evenings (8.25-hour shifts including a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
- Weekly Hours: Approximately 38 hours
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; holiday shifts required if scheduled (schedule provided 2 weeks in advance)
- Call/Standby: None; work scheduled shifts without early release
- Orientation: 3 days, unit/department specific
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as building supervisor during evenings, nights, and weekends overseeing floor RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
- Not assigned direct resident care tasks; acts as a resource and supervisor for nursing staff
- Monitor resident condition changes and issues
- Coordinate outside services (labs, portable x-rays, etc.)
- Contact physicians or nurse practitioners for resident needs/issues after hours through chain of command
- Perform specialized nursing tasks reserved for RNs only: central line care, chest tube care/management, IV starts, admission orders, fall assessments
- Participate in care plan meetings primarily for short-term stay residents
Patient Population
- Residents aged 18 and older
- Includes long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, dementia, and hospice residents (with dedicated hospice rooms)
- Common treatments include wound measurement (staging done by NP), IV medications such as Lasix, Bumex, and antibiotics
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen, nebulizers, inhalers, and tracheostomy care (no ventilators or on-site respiratory therapists)
Staffing and Team Structure
- RN Supervisor role is outside the staffing grid and does not provide direct resident care
- Floor nursing staff primarily LPNs with some RNs
- Nurse Managers assigned Monday-Friday; reduced coverage on weekends
- Interdisciplinary team includes PT, OT, SLP, case managers, social workers, and dieticians
- Physician and NP available by phone after hours via DON, manager, or RN supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS certification
- Prior experience with PCC electronic medical record system required
- Experience measuring wounds (nurses measure only; staging done by NP)
- Ability to perform IV starts and manage central lines and chest tubes
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
Work Environment and Policies
- Facility uses PCC EMR system
- Medication administration from pill bottles; emergency drug closet access when pharmacy is closed
- Pharmacy available on-site weekdays during business hours
- No telemonitoring or telemetry responsibilities
- Dress code: professional, clean scrubs of any color except camouflage
- Must use facility timeclock and COTA system; badge replacement fee applies if lost
Additional Notes
- Responsible for overseeing multiple units simultaneously during assigned shifts
- No floating required as position covers entire building during shift
