Labor & Delivery RN - Nebraska (Kearney)

Job Details

• Location: Kearney, Nebraska
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Patient Volume: Approximately 50 births per month (600 per year)
• Unit Setup:

  • 10 private LDRP rooms (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
  • 2 antepartum rooms
  • 1 OR suite
  • 2 on-call rooms for doctors
• Staffing:

  • Charge RN
  • Lactation counselor
  • Unit secretary/notary
  • Maternity educator
  • Nurse aides/OB tech (day and night shifts depending on census)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Couplet care: 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Laboring patients: 1 nurse to 1 patient
• Floating: NICU (feeders and growers only)
• Orientation: 1-2 days floor-specific orientation
• Weekend/Holiday Requirements:

  • Every 3rd weekend (potentially every other depending on need)
  • One major and one minor holiday per assignment
• Common Patient Diagnoses:

  • Pregnancies ≥32 weeks (others transferred out)
  • No VBAC patients
  • Patients on magnesium sulfate or insulin
• Care Model: Mothers labor, deliver, and recover in one bed; newborns stay in bassinets in mothers' rooms with skin-to-skin care; no nursery
• Teamwork: Strong collaborative environment
• Recognition: Designated as a Safe Sleep Champion by the Department of Health & Human Services

Clinical & Technical Requirements

• Required Certifications:

  • Current Nebraska RN license or compact license
  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • ACLS (AHA or ARC)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Preferred Certification: Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM)
• Experience:

  • C-section circulating experience required
  • Strong IV skills required
  • Experience with EPIC charting is a plus
• Technology:

  • EMR system: MediTech
  • FHM system: OBIX
  • Telemetry monitoring: GE centrally monitored system
• Support Services:

  • Respiratory therapy available 24/7
  • Pharmacy on call at night, moving toward 24/7 coverage within a year
• Other:

  • Anesthesia on call with 20-minute response time
  • OB/Neonatologist on call

Additional Notes

• Scrub color provided by hospital
• Floating assignments limited to NICU feeders and growers
• Nurses may be required to work up to 2 additional mandatory shifts every 6 weeks
• Emphasis on family-centered care and skin-to-skin contact
