    Description

    Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MICU (Travel/Contract)

    Location: Everett, Washington
    Contract Length: 13 weeks
    Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
    Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2-week period
    Weekends Required: Yes
    Float Required: Yes (may float to telemetry units if needed)
    First-time Travelers: Not accepted
    Locals: Not accepted


    Unit & Work Environment

    • High acuity, fast-paced Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
    • Patient population includes medically complex, critically ill patients with conditions such as respiratory failure (noninvasive or mechanical ventilation), post central venous line (CVL), cardiac arrest with targeted temperature management (TTM), multisystem organ failure, shock states, stroke post thrombolytic therapy (TPa), COVID-19, ARDS, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and alcohol withdrawal
    • Common procedures: bedside central and arterial line placements, chest tube placement, rapid sequence intubation, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and code blue response
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 2:1; may increase to 4:1 during high census with boarders
    • One CNA per shift to assist
    • EPIC electronic health record system used
    • Facility is a Level II Trauma Center with 571 staffed beds across campuses
    • Scrub color: Any except reddish orange
    • Parking is facility paid

    Required Certifications

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
    • Minimum of 1 year of recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience within the last year
    • Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
    • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

    Work Requirements & Expectations

    • Must be able to work weekends and float to other units as needed
    • Must maintain a minimum of 60 hours per 2-week period
    • Must be prepared for a fast-paced, high acuity environment with complex patient care needs

    Background & Compliance Requirements

    • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
    • Social Security Card (as applicable)
    • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
    • E-Verify attestation required
    • Education verification required (nursing degree verification mandatory)
    • WA State Patrol Search (WATCH) within 90 days of start, updated every 2 years for certain facility types
    • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
    • Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
    • Work history verification may be required if reference exceptions are requested

    Health & Safety Requirements

    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
    • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required annually; may be completed onsite if no valid record within 1 year
    • Immunizations and/or documentation required:
      • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
      • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
      • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
      • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination
      • COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to infection prevention policies
    • 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)

    Training & Competency Requirements

    • Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
    • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
    • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
    • Epic training modules required and must be completed within a week of orientation
    • Floating policy acknowledgment required

    Additional Notes

    • Floating to telemetry units may be required but is rare due to staffing levels
    • Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)
    • Parking is paid by the facility
    • Scrub color restrictions apply (no reddish orange)

    This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable in a high-acuity MICU setting and able to work a demanding schedule including weekends and floating.
