Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Alton, Illinois
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (Telemetry)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call Requirement: Yes
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week for 3 shifts of 12 hours

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
    • Statewide searches (IL and MO as applicable)
    • Nationwide and international searches if applicable
    • Education verification of highest nursing degree
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks required
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • State-specific exclusion and sanction list checks for Illinois placements
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP; must remain valid throughout assignment
  • MO-specific background checks required if applicable (not for Illinois)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Td acceptable for renewals)
  • Two negative TB tests (PPD) or one T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year of start; yearly TB questionnaire required
  • Immunity or vaccination required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Documentation & Facility Requirements

  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start (Oncology skills checklist required if assigned to Med Surg-Oncology)
  • Competency exams required annually, including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific exams
  • Facility-specific documents to be completed prior to start:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with minimum 80% score)
    • TB Questionnaire
    • Hand Hygiene Policy
    • Fingernail Policy
    • Dress Code Policy
    • Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours, required for all RNs)
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility policies and complete required training modules promptly during the compliance process.
  • Floating assignments will be within the scope of practice.
  • No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel.
  • Weekend and on-call shifts are mandatory as specified.

This position offers an opportunity to work in an acute care hospital setting with a focus on telemetry nursing, providing care in an Intermediate Care Unit with a supportive team environment.
