Description
Radiation Therapist Travel/Contract Position
Location: Santa Cruz, California
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Perform routine and specialized radiation treatments independently according to physician-developed treatment plans.
- Use sound judgment and clinical skills to deliver safe, precise, and timely radiation therapy.
- Provide competent patient assessment, monitoring, and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- May perform specific procedures and orient new staff to the department.
- Shift start times are flexible between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in California.
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year.
- ARRT (Therapeutic) certification.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Experience with Elekta, Mosaiq, and AlignRT radiation therapy systems.
Work Schedule
- Day shifts, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (40 hours/week).
- Typical shift hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Work history verification up to 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
- Professional references: 2 required for clinical positions within 3 years of hire.
Certifications and Training
- Must have current BLS certification (AHA or ARC).
- ACLS, PALS, CCRN, and other certifications may be required depending on position specifics (verify during credentialing).
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams and other competency tests may be required as applicable.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days of start or 2-step PPD testing. Annual renewal required.
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination with mask-wearing requirement.
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids).
Facility-Specific Documents and Compliance
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including:

- Overpayment Refund Policy
- Vendor Training (2024 and 2025 versions as applicable)
- Conditional Offer of Employment Attestation
- TB Questionnaire (signed by candidate and healthcare provider)
