Description
Registered Nurse (Pediatric and Teen ICU)
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift (36 hours/week)
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care for pediatric patients aged 3 days to 18 years in both Pediatric and Pediatric ICU (PICU) units.
- Float to Neonatal ICU (NICU) as needed.
- Manage a variety of conditions including respiratory issues, traumas, seizures, poisoning, RSV, general surgical cases, birth defects, and COVID-19 patients.
- PICU cases exclude burns and highly specialized cardiac cases (these are sent out).
Unit Details
- Pediatric unit: 28 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4
- PICU unit: 7 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:2
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and Pyxis medication systems.
- Dress code: Caribbean blue scrubs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in both Pediatric and PICU nursing (must have both).
- Experience in a Level 2 Trauma center with 400+ bed facility acuity required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification through AHA.
- Valid Indiana RN license or compact RN license.
- EPIC experience required.
- IV skills are a plus.
Orientation & Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (travelers returning within 12 months are not eligible for this).
- Orientation includes 24 hours on the floor with a preceptor.
Additional Information
- Call-off policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
- Local travelers within 50 miles may be accepted with adjusted terms.
- Overtime options may be available.
Notes
- Must be able to float between Pediatric, PICU, and NICU units.
- Candidates should be prepared to care for a wide range of pediatric critical care conditions.
