Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Santa Monica, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Work in a unit with:
- 4 antepartum rooms
- 9 labor/high-risk rooms
- 3 triage rooms
- No on-call required
- May float to postpartum if needed (including postpartum couplet care: newborn and maternal)
- Responsibilities include:
- Fetal heart monitoring
- High-risk pregnancy monitoring
- Assisting with C-sections and vaginal deliveries
- Postpartum care only if there is a shortage of Perinatal RNs
- Weekend work required every other weekend
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- ACLS (American Heart Association certification required)
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute care hospital located near the beach
- Total staffed beds: 266
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub colors: Navy blue for RNs; provided for L&D/OR/Cath Lab
- Parking available with associated costs
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- No on-call required
- Floating to postpartum unit expected
- Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion
- Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
- Education verification (nursing degree verification required)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Drug screen (9-panel) within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual update required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates
- Fit mask testing required (annual update), to be completed onsite if no valid record exists
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
- Completion of Epic training modules prior to or shortly after start date
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with float policy acknowledging possible assignment to other nearby facilities
- Local travel radius is 50 miles
- No pending licenses accepted
- First-time travel nurses are not accepted for this role
- References and employment history must be verifiable and meet facility standards
- Background checks and other compliance documents must be current and meet facility requirements
