RN Medical / Surgical

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Job Description

• Requires 2 years of experience in medical/surgical or telemetry nursing.
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required.
• Prior travel experience is required.
• May need to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

• Professional credentials: Resume/profile, signed assignment agreement, and two professional references.
• Background checks including criminal background, EPLS, and employment verification covering the past 7 years.
• Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
• Health requirements:

  • Proof of MMR, Varicella, Tdap vaccinations or immunity (no declinations accepted).
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza vaccine is optional but mask required if declined during flu season.
  • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (3M 1860 Regular, Small, or 1870+), updated annually.
  • Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment start, updated annually.
  • Color vision test completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.

Competency and Skills Testing

• Ascension Specialty Exam: Minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
• Ascension Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
• Ascension EKG Exam: Minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
• Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually.

Additional Notes

• Must provide a valid driver’s license or state ID matching address on file.
• Onboarding includes completion of education attestation and nursing contract worker onboarding modules.
• May be required to work extended hours of work (EOW) and extended hours of hospital (EOH) as needed.

This position is suitable for experienced medical/surgical RNs with prior travel nursing experience who are comfortable working night shifts and floating within a 40-mile radius.
