Job Opportunity: RN Step Down
Location: Brookfield, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Step Down unit with telemetry patients.
- Experience caring for recovery of surgical patients required.
- Must have at least 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience.
- Work includes every 3rd weekend and evening/overnight (EOH) rotation with staff.
- May be required to float onsite within skill set or to other nearby sites within 40 miles.
- Use of EPIC electronic health record system.
- Prior travel nursing experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- Med/Surg experience
- Telemetry experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Onboarding & Compliance Requirements
- Professional resume/profile and at least two professional references required prior to submission.
- Signed assignment agreement and onboarding documents required before starting.
- Completion of specialty competency exams including:
- Specialty exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
- EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score (updated every 3 years).
- Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory topics (updated every 3 years).
- Epic test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.
- Health and immunization requirements:
- MMR: documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer (no declinations).
- Varicella: documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by provider (no declinations).
- Tdap: valid within 10 years (no declinations).
- Hepatitis B: vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement).
- TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
- Fit test for N95 respirators (updated annually).
- Health statement or physical exam prior to assignment and updated annually.
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Background checks and verifications:
- Criminal background check including SSN trace, OIG, National Sex Offender, and other searches within 90 days prior to start.
- EPLS check within 90 days prior to start.
- Employment verification for past 7 years.
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start.
- Driver’s license or state ID must be current and match address requirements.
Additional Notes
- Completion of pre-hire modules and onboarding education attestations required.
- Some optional checklists may be requested by unit leadership after start.
- Must maintain all certifications and compliance documents updated as required throughout assignment.
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with Med/Surg background and prior travel nursing experience seeking a long-term evening/night shift assignment.
