Description
Registered Nurse (NICU) - Intensive Care Unit Neonatal
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift (7 PM - 7 AM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- Level IV NICU, 61 beds across 24 rooms (up to 3 patients per room)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3
- Neonatologist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes Drager, Servo, HFJV, HFOV, Nava, CPAP, Nasal Cannula
- No telemetry/monitor techs on unit
- Charge Nurse present on each shift but does not take patient assignments (travelers will not serve as Charge Nurse)
- Nurse aides/patient care technicians available (1-2 per shift)
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Prematurity (22 weeks and above), respiratory distress (Nava, CPAP, ventilators), surgical patients (tracheostomies, G-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs), feeder/growers
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as Morphine, Dopamine, Epinephrine
Scheduling & Orientation
- No self-scheduling; scheduler coordinates shifts
- Maximum of 5 consecutive shifts allowed
- Weekend and holiday shifts required as needed
- No call or standby requirements
- Possible floating to Pediatrics, PICU, Nursery, Mother-Baby units (with orientation if needed)
- Possible floating to other NICUs with lower acuity in nearby locations
- Orientation: 2 shifts unit-specific orientation plus 1 shift meeting with educator to review unit standards
- Dress code: Hospital blue scrubs or personal scrubs
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA or ARC)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- STABLE certification
Experience Requirements
- If all nursing experience is in NICU: minimum 2 years NICU experience required
- If nursing experience includes other areas: minimum 1 year NICU experience required
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required
Additional Notes
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule; candidates must reside outside this radius to be eligible
- Floating assignments may require orientation to other units or facilities
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level IV NICU with a diverse patient population and strong interdisciplinary support.
