Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 (12-hour shifts)
Call Requirements:

• 2 call shifts per 6-week period
• Call shifts are 13 hours
• Must be onsite within 1 hour when on call
• No block scheduling

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients in the Emergency Department (ED) using nursing processes, current trends, and technology. Responsible for patient assessment, developing and implementing care plans, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring patient and staff safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with providers, patients, and families.
• Implement and modify nursing interventions based on continuous evaluation.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
• Promote patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and families to support a healing environment.
• Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification
• Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN degree.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification highly preferred.
• Experience in a Level 2 or higher trauma center preferred.

Additional Information

• This position is for a night shift in the Emergency Department.
• Call shifts require prompt onsite response within one hour.
• No block scheduling is offered.
