Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab - Travel

Location: Morristown, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (AM)
Hours: 8 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week


Job Summary

Provide specialized nursing care in the cardiac catheterization lab, performing comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedural assessments and interventions. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety, quality imaging, and effective workflow. Deliver patient education and respond promptly to emergencies following ACLS protocols.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough patient assessments across all age groups (Pediatric to Geriatric), including medical history, renal function, cardiac status, and contraindications to contrast or medications.
  • Conduct pre-operative and postoperative assessments and education, ensuring patient and family understanding of procedures and care instructions.
  • Administer and titrate medications (e.g., beta-blockers, nitroglycerin) per protocol to optimize heart rate control for imaging quality.
  • Establish and maintain IV access, including accessing implanted chest ports and using power injectors for contrast administration.
  • Monitor patients continuously before, during, and after cardiac CT angiography (CCTA) and other imaging procedures, promptly identifying and responding to clinical changes.
  • Implement evidence-based practices to minimize risks of contrast-related complications such as extravasation and allergic reactions.
  • Document nursing care accurately in the electronic medical record, including medications administered, patient responses, and procedural details.
  • Respond to emergencies, including contrast reactions and acute clinical events, following established protocols and ACLS guidelines.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency in cardiac imaging and contrast safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an outpatient setting
  • Ability to access implanted chest ports
  • Cardiac Cath Lab experience
  • Telemetry experience
  • Interventional Radiology experience

Physical and Professional Requirements

  • Competent knowledge of emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to perform safe patient transfers and use proper body mechanics.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Follow National Patient Safety Goals, including Universal Protocol and patient identification standards.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and responsibility in patient care and teamwork.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
