Unit Information
- Unit: Med/Surg with Oncology focus (Unit 608)
- Beds: 24
- Staff: 19 total, including 6 new nurses onboarding this month
- Shift staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses, 1 Admin Care tech
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses (when fully staffed)
- Patient ratio: Approximately 1:5 (not guaranteed)
- EMR system: Meditech
- Unit is a remote telemetry unit with oncology patients
- Magnet facility with strong emphasis on nurse input and quality care
- Nurses use iPhone system for communication within the care team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- BLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Chemotherapy certification
- ACLS certification
Typical Procedures
- Standard medical-surgical nursing care
- Chemotherapy administration (only by chemo-certified nurses)
Work Environment & Culture
- Positive, team-oriented unit with strong charge nurse support
- Known for excellent teamwork; frequently praised by float pool staff
- Focus on oncology care within a med/surg setting
- Vital signs performed every 8 hours; telemetry patients monitored every 4 hours
Additional Notes
- Candidates without at least 1 year of current acute care Med/Surg experience will not be considered
- The unit values a positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively
