Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily Monday through Friday day shifts (6:30 AM to 3:00 PM), 40 hours per week
- Rotating weekends required, but primarily M-F shifts
- On-call required: minimum 3 shifts per 6-week schedule (including 1 weekend shift)
- Weekday post-shift call from 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM
- Weekend call shifts of 12 hours (6:30 AM–6:30 PM or 6:30 PM–6:30 AM)
- Call duties evenly split between staff and travelers
- Self-scheduling with integration into first scheduling cycle depending on start date
- Required skills: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Robotics (must have at least 2 of these 3 skills)
- Facility is an acute care hospital with Magnet recognition
- Charting system: Epic
- Free parking available
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation equivalent)
- BLS (AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation equivalent)
- CNOR preferred but not required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke, CPI, IV Certification) may be required based on unit or specialty but not mandatory for this role unless specified by manager
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation
- Fit mask test required for travel staff (updated annually)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or acceptable declinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable)
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
- Education verification required for nursing degree
- NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
- Work history verification may be required if reference requirements are not met
- Various state-specific background and registry checks may apply depending on placement location
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed hours with facility able to call off once per two-week pay period
- Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered
- Block scheduling accommodations at manager discretion
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles
Additional Notes
- Candidate must provide a passport-style badge photo with neutral background prior to start
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via online learning system
- Must comply with float policy acknowledging possible assignment to other nearby facilities
- Epic training modules required and must be completed promptly after orientation
