Speech Language Pathologist - Pediatrics
Location: Juneau, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments focused on improving patients' functional abilities. Services are delivered in various settings including inpatient, outpatient, home health, long-term care, community clinics, and remote locations. Occasional multi-day travel to remote areas by boat or plane may be required, sometimes in harsh weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments, evaluations, and develop therapy treatment plans with goals.
- Implement, supervise, and modify therapy plans to optimize patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals.
- Document patient encounters, diagnoses, treatment plans, and recommendations according to policies.
- Provide patient and family education, including home exercise programs tailored to individual needs.
- Participate in community health services, including home assessments and health promotion projects.
- Assist with clinic operations, specialty/research areas, and administrative duties as needed.
- Educate staff and provide therapy consultations, presentations, and in-services.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory and practice standards set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- Use hospital computer systems for patient information and documentation.
- Ensure cleanliness and supply maintenance of clinical areas.
- Follow confidentiality, quality assurance, and safety standards.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work may involve small spaces, fast pace, and interaction with diverse personalities.
- Exposure to infectious organisms possible; use of precautions and protective equipment required.
- Potential presence of latex in the workplace.
- Physically demanding tasks including repetitive or heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds).
- Travel to remote locations by boat or plane, sometimes in harsh weather.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
- Licensed by the State of Alaska in Speech Language Pathology at time of application.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience with pediatric and outpatient populations required.
- Flu vaccine required.
Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE), approximately 40 hours per week.
- Pediatric clinic hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Exact shift details depend on scheduling needs.
Additional Information
- Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the work location.
- Housing and travel expenses are not provided.
- Start date will be no less than 6 weeks after fingerprint processing is complete.
This position requires professionalism, good judgment, tact, and sensitivity to cross-cultural issues.
