Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU
Location: Castro Valley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Neuro ICU position requiring at least 1 year of Neuro ICU experience.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
- Float assignments may include Emergency Department (ED), Step Down Unit, or Central Monitoring Department.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year.
- Current certifications in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start date, including alias checks and nationwide searches.
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Sex offender search required within 90 days of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Two professional references required within 3 years of hire.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step PPD.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually.
- Color blindness exam required if applicable (in-person exam only).
Competency and Testing
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required.
- ICU RNs at some locations may be required to take an EKG exam onsite after start.
