Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Castro Valley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Neuro ICU position requiring at least 1 year of Neuro ICU experience.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
- May float to Emergency Department (ED), Step Down Unit, or Central Monitoring Department.
- Epic electronic health record experience required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start date, including alias and county searches.
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Sex offender search required within 90 days of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical acute care roles.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start; must be renewed annually.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years).
- Rubeola (Measles).
- Mumps.
- Rubella.
- Hepatitis B (series or signed declination).
- Varicella.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Color blindness exam required if applicable (in-person exam only).
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and renewed annually.
Additional Facility Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
- Job description.
- Standards of business conduct.
- Code of conduct.
- Overpayment refund policy.
- Regulatory orientation for contracted workers.
- Confidentiality and abuse policies.
- TB screening questionnaire must be signed by candidate and healthcare provider.
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) or vaccine exemptions, subject to approval.
Notes
- Locals accepted within 50 miles but at a different pay rate.
- Pending background check attestation is not accepted; no conditional clearances allowed.
- ICU RNs at this facility may be required to take an EKG competency exam onsite after start.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams may be required as applicable.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs licensed in California who are comfortable with a 3x12 hour day shift schedule and have strong critical care and neuro experience.
