Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location
- Pittsfield, Maine

Unit Information
- Emergency Department with 6 beds
- Average daily census: 30-50 patients
- No floating to other units
Patient Types / Common Diagnoses
- Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA)
- Stroke
- Myocardial Infarction (MI)
- Respiratory diseases
- Animal/Insect bites
- Broken bones
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Concussions
- Psychiatric cases
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- Proficient in ventilator management
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Preferred: TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Skills Required
- IV therapy
- Ventilator management
- EKG interpretation
Support Staff in Department
- CNA available (performs EKGs, respiratory swabs, basic care)
- Charge nurse present
- Phlebotomy available
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- No Respiratory Therapist 24/7
- No IV/VAT team, resource nurse, telemetry monitoring/tech, or intensivist 24/7
Technology and Equipment
- EMR system: Cerner
- IV pumps: Abbott
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis (transitioning to Omnicell in July)
- Monitors: GE
- Unit-specific equipment available
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- One day with educator plus one shift with RN preceptor
Scheduling
- Shifts: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Holiday work expected
- Schedule cycle every 6 weeks
- No on-call required
- Time off requests approved only by Director after interview

- Close-knit unit culture
- Scrub color: No patterns or designs allowed

Additional Requirements (Pre-Employment/Onboarding)
- Background checks and screenings including criminal background, drug screen, DHHS APS check, exclusion search, FACIS Level 3, OIG search, sex offender registry, and others
- Immunizations and titers: Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, TDAP
- Certifications and competency verifications including annual core competencies, medication exam, skills checklist, unit competency
- Fit testing for N-95 mask
- Employment authorization and confidentiality agreements
- Physical exam and PPD test
- Emergency contact information and photo ID required
