Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU
Location: Elmira, New York
Unit: 20-bed Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Level 3 NICU setting.
- Manage infants on ventilators, oscillators, and cooling devices.
- Must be Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) trained.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
- NICU experience within the last year.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
Health and Safety Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination (optional).
- MMR: Positive IgG titer or two vaccine series required; titers must show results for measles, mumps, and rubella individually.
- Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or facility-specific declination form required.
- Varicella: Positive IgG titer or two vaccine series required.
- Tdap: Preferred but not required; if no record, facility-specific declination form needed.
- TB Test: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:
- Two skin PPDs (one within 12 months, one within 3 months), or
- One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months.
- Past positive TB requires chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Fit Test: Must be completed within the last 12 months prior to start; annual requirement.
- Physical/Health Statement: Must be from within the last 12 months, including vitals, height, weight, Snellen eye chart, and a statement of clearance with no restrictions.
Onboarding and Documentation Requirements
- Complete facility/unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually.
- Pass Core Competency Exams with a minimum score of 80%.
- Provide a current, legible US driver’s license or state ID.
- Submit a recent color headshot (professional style, no filters).
- Background check within 30 days of start, including:
- SSN address trace for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years.
- County and national criminal searches.
- FACIS 3 check.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (9+ panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, methadone, methaqualone, propoxyphene, nitrites).
- Provide two professional references:
- One supervisor reference from employment within the last 12 months.
- One supervisor or peer reference from employment within the last 3 years.
- Submit a detailed resume covering all employment and education for the last 7 years.
- Employment verification of most recent employer (agency verification accepted).
- Signed and dated job description.
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding documents including:
- Personal Information Form
- Code of Conduct
- Confirmation of Assignment Form
- Self Study Packet and Quiz
- Sexual Harassment Acknowledgement
- Parking Registration Form
- Completion of facility-specific TB Questionnaire and Epic Questionnaire forms.
- Review and sign Education Mission Statement (initial assignments only).
Additional Notes
- All certifications and licenses must remain valid throughout the assignment.
- Facility-specific declination forms are required if certain vaccinations or titers are negative or equivocal.
- Fit testing may be provided on-site if needed; traveler must notify in advance.
- Annual health and competency requirements must be maintained for extended assignments.
This position is ideal for an experienced NICU RN comfortable with advanced neonatal care and ventilator management, seeking a 13-week long-term assignment in New York.
