Description

Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location

  • Orem, Utah

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment

Contract Length

  • 12 weeks

Work Schedule

  • 36 hours per week
  • Shifts: 06:00–18:00 or 18:00–06:00
  • Requires working 2 weekends per month

Unit Details

  • Emergency Department with 16 beds
  • Patient ratios: 3-4:1 generally, 1:1 for trauma/critical patients
  • No floating unless cross-trained to Emergency Department
  • Documentation system: Meditech
  • Equipment includes bedside Insyte IVs

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Utah (or compact license at submission)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN in Emergency Department or related specialty

Skills and Procedures

  • Advanced skills preferred: ultrasound-guided IV insertion, EKG interpretation, breathing treatments, digit blocks, chest tube and central line knowledge, lumbar puncture setup, administration of TNK
  • Procedures performed include:
    • Peripheral and ultrasound-guided IV insertion
    • Intraosseous (IO) insertion management
    • Central line dressing changes
    • Blood and urine specimen collection, blood culture collection
    • End tidal CO2 monitoring
    • 12-lead ECG acquisition
    • Assisting with defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, transcutaneous pacing
    • Operation of rapid infuser devices
    • Massive transfusion protocol (MTP) implementation
    • Splint application, hemorrhage control, tourniquet application, wound irrigation
    • IV medication and blood product administration
    • Procedural sedation monitoring and medication titration
    • Pediatric IV insertion using Broselow/Panda system
    • Foley and straight catheter insertion

  • Collaborative team that works closely with physicians and mid-level providers
  • Emphasis on teamwork and supportive work culture

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Utah
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • Proficient in breathing treatments, digit blocks, chest tube knowledge, and lumbar puncture (LP) setup
