Cardiac Cath Lab Tech

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day
Start Date: ASAP starts only


Job Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist supports cardiac catheterization procedures by preparing the lab and operating essential equipment such as fluoroscopy imaging and digital image acquisition. Responsibilities include accurate documentation of patient information and hemodynamic measurements, maintaining aseptic technique, ensuring patient safety, and serving as the radiation safety representative during X-ray use. The role requires collaboration with the medical team to optimize patient care and departmental efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure major equipment is operational and document quality control.
  • Perform daily room checks and stock supplies.
  • Review daily patient schedules and prepare equipment and room configuration for procedures.
  • Enter patient information accurately into cath lab computer and imaging systems.
  • Document procedures, hemodynamic measurements, and ECG recognition.
  • Position and secure patients safely on procedure tables.
  • Set up and operate cath lab equipment including imaging (X-Ray, IVUS, ICE), contrast injectors, hemodynamic systems, intra-aortic balloon pumps, rotational atherectomy, thrombectomy, and left ventricular assist devices.
  • Support physicians during procedures, ensuring patient safety and aseptic technique.
  • Act as radiation safety representative during X-ray use.
  • Participate in patient transport as needed.
  • Engage in teamwork, knowledge sharing, and departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to organizational policies on patient safety, privacy, infection control, and communication.
  • Follow departmental dress code and attendance policies.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technology school, or
  • Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty or acute care setting preferred.
  • Electrophysiology (EP) experience is required.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (AHA only) required to work independently at pediatric facilities.
  • State licensure required based on modality: Texas MRT or LMRT by TMB.
  • Preferred certifications (one or more):
    • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) by CCI
    • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) by CCI
    • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by CCI
    • Radiography (R) by ARRT
    • Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) by ARRT
    • Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV) by ARRT
    • Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) by ARRT
    • Abdomen (AB) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) RDMS by ARDMS
    • Adult Echocardiography (AE) RDCS by ARDMS
    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS

  • Must adhere to aseptic technique 100% of the time during procedures.
