Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Location: Meridian, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Day: 12 hours
Typical Weekly Hours: 36 hours
Unit Details
- ICU with 14 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1 depending on patient acuity and specialty devices
- Common patient diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Post Cardiac Arrest, Sepsis, DKA, Alcohol Withdrawal, Stroke (with/without thrombectomy), GI bleeds, respiratory failure, COPD, and more
- Specialty devices include IABP, Impella, CRRT (NxtStage), Zoll Thermo for cooling (experience with these devices is not required but may be requested if available)
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license appropriate for Idaho
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of critical care ICU experience required for night shift (non-PCU)
- First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience not required)
- Ability to titrate critical drips including but not limited to: Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Phenylephrine, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Morphine, Versed, Precedex, Heparin, Insulin
- Must be able to troubleshoot and manage respiratory therapy equipment if RT is unavailable (ventilators, NIPPV, CPAP, Nitric Oxide)
- Required to review and sign off on telemetry strips; perform at least one telemetry strip per shift
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse present on each shift; generally does not take patient assignments
- Patient care technicians/aids: approximately 2 per shift (1:8 ratio)
- Telemetry techs present to perform majority of telemetry strip reviews
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 in ICU
- Hospitalists and intensivists available during day; night coverage by Tele MD and on-site physician covering multiple campuses
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Schedule created by management; travelers fill staffing gaps after core staff scheduling
- Block scheduling may be considered for night shift
- Maximum of 5 consecutive shifts allowed unless approved
- Typically scheduled every other to every third weekend
- Holiday rotation participation may be required
- No call or standby requirements
- Overtime opportunities available
Floating & Orientation
- Floating may be required across nearby campuses (Boise, Meridian, Nampa) including MICU, SICU, and ICU units
- May be asked to float as Patient Safety Attendant on any floor
- Floating notice goal: 2 hours prior to shift start; mid-shift floating possible in emergencies
- Travel distances between campuses range from approximately 10 to 23 miles (14 to 33 minutes drive)
- Orientation includes hospital-wide onboarding, unit-specific orientation, and one precepted shift on the floor (additional shift may be provided if needed)

- Night shift nurses are the first to float when needed
