    Description

    Registered Nurse – Outpatient Surgery (Travel/Contract)

    Location: Tracy, California
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Summary

    • Provide direct patient care, patient/family education, and manage transitions of care in an outpatient surgery setting (Phase II/Ambulatory Surgery).
    • Develop and coordinate individualized interdisciplinary care plans considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
    • Foster collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members through effective communication.
    • Perform routine nursing assignments and develop competence through structured work.

    Work Schedule

    • Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (9:30 AM – 6:00 PM)

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in outpatient surgery, with outpatient surgery experience within the last year
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • Certifications:
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
      • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

    • Charting system: EPIC.

    • Recently expanded ER, Family Birth Center, outpatient surgery center, and imaging center.

    Background and Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
    • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screening.
    • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law).
    • Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
    • Employment verification for up to 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
    • Two professional references required within 3 years (Aya requirement, not client).

    Health and Immunization Requirements

    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
    • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
    • TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD testing with annual renewal.
    • Immunizations or titers required for:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles (Rubeola)
      • Mumps
      • Rubella
      • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
      • Varicella
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination with mask requirement in patient care areas.
    • Color vision exam (in-person) required if applicable.
    • Respiratory safety clearance required annually (not required for some lab and pharmacy roles).

    Additional Certifications and Competencies

    • Some positions may require:
      • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Instructor or Advanced Provider Course
      • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – valid for 4 years
      • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – typically for Labor & Delivery
      • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
      • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
      • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for some telemetry units
    • ICU and Med/Surg/Telemetry RNs at certain locations may be required to take onsite EKG exams after start.
