Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Martinsville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Facility & Unit Overview

Acute-care hospital with 220 licensed beds
Emergency Department with 34 beds
Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
Serves all age groups (pediatric, adult, geriatric)
Electronic Health Record system: Medhost
Common diagnoses treated: Chest Pain, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Psychiatric cases
Shift: 36 hours per week, weekend hours as needed every other weekend
Call requirements: As needed
Float requirements: As needed

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Handle with Care certification
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification

Orientation & Compliance

Orientation offered bi-weekly on Tuesdays
Must consent to random drug screening and complete a criminal questionnaire/consent form
Random drug screens conducted on site

Work Environment & Culture

Dress code: Scrubs of any color allowed; casual wear is not acceptable

I have been with Host Healthcare for several months. I am not very tolerant of red tape. However Rachel at Host is my Recruiter and has done an incredible job of cutting through the red tape and doing a lot of hand holding through the initial process. She has made my experience so pleasant. I could've gotten more money elsewhere but i am staying right here. Rachel is available all of the time!!! I am very grateful.
