Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Medical ICU (CVICU) Travel Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (flexible, must be indicated on submission)
Number of Openings: 3


Unit & Patient Care Information

  • Unit: Cardiac Medical Intensive Care Unit (22 beds)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Patient Types: Sepsis, respiratory conditions (pneumonia, COVID, ARDS), post cardiac arrest, GI bleed, DKA, PE, renal failure, liver failure, pancreatitis, overdose, suicidal ideations, CIWA
  • Equipment: Impella, IABP, Prismax CRRT, Zoll internal cooling device, Arctic Sun
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Float: May be floated to other stepdown units depending on staffing needs
  • Call: None required
  • Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including at least one year within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
  • Utilize nursing process to coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain professional accountability and patient confidentiality
  • Work within Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility standards
  • Physical demands include standing/walking most of the shift, bending, stooping, lifting/turning patients with assistance, and handling exposure to blood/body fluids
  • Must be available for night shift orientation on day shift for one week

Work Environment & Culture

  • High standards of excellence and accountability expected
  • Dress code: Black scrubs only; no hats, non-facility jackets/sweatshirts, or AirPods allowed
  • Facility holds multiple certifications and awards for trauma, stroke, STEMI, and heart failure care

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1; declinations not accepted
  • Flexible scheduling options available but must be specified on submission
  • Holiday time off requests limited to one per assignment
  • Orientation and scheduling details subject to facility approval

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Must meet unit-specific physical demands and adapt to varying schedules as needed

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong cardiac and medical ICU skills seeking a travel assignment in a high-acuity environment.
