Description
Registered Nurse – Perioperative Care
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Day shift
Hours: 10-hour shifts, typically 40 hours per week
Schedule:
- Shift times vary (e.g., 5:30 AM–4:30 PM, 6:00 AM, 7:30 AM, or 8:00 AM start)
- Random day off per week
- 4-week schedule provided at a time
- Travelers expected to be flexible and help fill gaps; no guaranteed block scheduling
- No weekend, holiday, or call requirements
Unit Details
- Combined Perioperative Holding Area (POHA) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- 26 Preop bays, 6 Operating Rooms, 20 PACU bays
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
- Charge nurse coverage over both Preop and PACU
- CNAs assist with rooming patients, CHG baths, vitals, 12-leads, blood draws, room setup for nerve blocks, cleaning bays, and bed transformations
- May be asked to float within PACU or to other nearby campuses; travelers typically first to float
Patient Population & Common Procedures
- Hands, orthopedics (total joints), foot & ankle, hand, sports medicine, pain procedures
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in perioperative nursing, including preoperative and postoperative care
- Experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Orientation & Training
- 2 days general orientation
- 1–3 days preceptor training
- Option to test out of Epic EMR class
- EMR system: Epic
Additional Information
- New facility opened April 2024
- Must be able to cross over between POHA and PACU as they function as one unit
- Willingness to train staff on assisting with nerve blocks and spinal procedures preferred
- Dress code: Any scrub color allowed; no artificial nails (must be removed if present); long-sleeve shirts allowed under scrub tops but no jackets
This position is a maternity leave coverage starting mid-September.
