Description
Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Assignment
Location
- Fruitland, Idaho
Assignment Details
- Travel contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (1930-0800)
- Hours per week: Approximately 36
- Schedule: 6 weeks scheduled at a time with modified self-scheduling; travelers can sign up for shifts, with efforts to group night shifts together
- Weekend and holiday coverage as needed; no call or standby requirements
- No floating required
- Orientation: One unit-specific orientation shift (8 to 12 hours) plus general orientation
Work Environment
- Emergency Department with 14 beds, including 1 trauma/resuscitation room
- Free-standing ER treating and transferring STEMIs, strokes, traumas, and admissions
- Separate triage area available but typically patients go directly to rooms
- Psych/seclusion safe room available
- Security present 24/7 (not housed in ER)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Average patient volume: 40-50 patients per day
- Staff includes 1 MD 24/7, mid-level provider from 12p-10p, charge nurse 24/7 (does not take patient assignments), CNA 24/7, unit clerk 24/7, and respiratory therapists 24/7
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Patients range from pediatrics to geriatrics
- Common cases: hospice, codes, strokes, STEMIs, abdominal pain, chest pain, respiratory issues, and typical ER presentations
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
Required Skills & Experience
- Open to nurses without prior standalone ER experience
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential
- Comfortable asking questions and working in a small department culture
Clinical Responsibilities
- Manage common drips including Levophed, Diltiazem, Narcotics, Propofol
- RNs interpret telemetry strips (SpaceLab monitors)
- Phlebotomy performed by both RNs and dedicated staff
- RT manages respiratory equipment and procedures (nasal cannula to vents, ABGs, nebs, EKGs)

- Any clean, professional scrub color
Additional Notes
- Small department with a positive culture
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address eligibility
Required License: Registered Nurse license valid for practice in Idaho
