Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiology (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: 9 AM – 5 PM
Hours: 7 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to cardiology patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Support patient education, safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, compassion, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement and participate in peer and institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
- Apply cost-effective approaches to patient care resources.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and ethical decision-making.
- Encourage lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.
- Participate in specialty councils, committees, and unit initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of cardiology experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- IV skills
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience
Additional Information
- Number of beds on unit: 32
- Prior travel experience is required for travel positions (1 year travel experience), but not for per diem roles.
- Ratios will vary.
- Shift does not include weekends (9 AM – 5 PM).
