OR Registered Nurse (RN) - West Virginia

Job Details

• Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Primarily day/evening shifts, 8-hour shifts (7a-3:30p typical for less experienced; also 11a-11p, 3p-11p, and nights for experienced RNs)
• Hours per Week: 40 hours
• Call Requirements:

  • One weeknight on-call (7p-7a) rotation
  • One weekend 24-hour on-call (7a-7p) per month
  • Holiday call rotation as needed
  • Call response time: 30 minutes (if >30 minutes away while on call, must stay on site)
• Floating: May float to outpatient surgery as needed
• Orientation: 1 week, 3 shifts

Unit & Work Environment

• Operating Room with 9 OR suites, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room
• Open 24/7 with 35-45 cases per day
• Common cases include general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedics (including robotics with Da Vinci and Rosa systems), neuro spine, trauma, vascular, pediatrics (mostly dental and ENT), and emergent cases (appendectomies, stabbings, craniotomies)
• No cardiovascular OR or labor & delivery coverage (no C-sections)
• Staff primarily travelers; no aides or housekeeping—techs handle room turnover
• Scrubs provided for RNs and OR techs

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
• 2-3 previous travel assignments
• Orthopedics experience
• Experience passing the arms in and out for robotic surgeries
• Experience with Epic EMR system
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification

Scheduling & Staffing

• No self-scheduling for travelers
• Block scheduling allowed if it meets unit needs
• Shift start times vary: 7a-3:30p, 7a-5:30p, 7a-3p, 9a-5p, 11a-7p, 3p-11p, 11a-11p
• Night shifts require full experience across all specialties

Additional Notes

• Candidates must disclose any background issues at submission
• Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year on assignment
• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; submissions may be held if position is full
• Minimal experience candidates may be considered for M-F 7a-3:30p shifts with facility support or refresher training

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with orthopedic and robotic surgery skills who have prior travel experience and are comfortable with varied shifts and call responsibilities in a high-volume surgical environment.
